Saturday 17th July 2021 and the challenge is on! Very nervous for my first ever public nakedness, but in the end it was cool! Well actually a really hot day’s walk, up to the summit of The Calf (2216ft) (in the Howgills, to the north of Sedbergh). A lovely deserted ridge to start, which was a great introduction and got me a little calmer. Sweating profusely in the heat, but made it all the way to within 100m of the summit, only to be confronted by a large group of MTB cyclists, my nerves failed, quickly donned the shorts before any embarrassment. After they had gone I continued to the top, a little disappointed. Walk down was good, met 4 people in all, cap was carefully placed. Comments in support from 2 of them, silence from the others. Total naked mileage – 9 miles (discounting the bit at the summit, the village start and finish) so I’m making my first donation to my own fundraiser!
Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene should be a normal part of everyone’s daily life. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.
So I have set this personal challenge, accepted the risks, and will be hiking naked whenever I can. I will personally be donating £1 per naked mile, and £1 per mountain summit reached, without having to put on any clothes. I’ll be trying not to cause any offence to others by careful use of my baseball cap, and by choosing routes that I expect to be very quiet.
I hope some people will be inspired to support me by donating, or even by joining me.

Walk #2 – Tuesday 20th July 2021
Over in Snowdonia this time, a stroll around the Cnicht / Moelwyn circuit, and fantastic walking it was, on yet another sweltering hot day. Into The Buff just outside the village of Croesor, and stayed that way all day – 9 miles naked, and 2 big summits Moelwyn Mawr and Cnicht. Several distant encounters, no protection needed, then quite a few people on Cnicht (unavoidable as narrow path). Spoke to them all, mostly supportive, some turned away. Another donation to my favourite charity!
Walk #3 – Thursday 22nd July, 2021
The hottest day of the year! Perfect for a naked 12 mile ramble up Carnedd Llywelyn (1064m – 3491ft) along the north ridge, bagging Drum, Foel Fras and Carnedd Gwenllian summits along the way. A great naked day. A few folk on Llywelyn did not approve (well I was occupying the shelter cairn eating my lunch), and a few others on the descent turned away, so not a a great day for support. Still £16 will be donated to my cause!
The image at the top is me on the summit of Foel Fras.
This almost feels like a penance, paying for absolution of sin! But it really isn’t. I don’t have to justify myself. I want to raise money for this cause, I like challenging myself and hope that others will support me too. And I have discovered that walking naked is a real joy, cool in hot weather, and I plan to do more very soon!!
A quick stroll up Great Hill, near Blackburn, Lancashire today 24th July. Nobody there except sheep, and a small family group that I heard coming, so quickly donned shorts, didn’t want to offend any parents with children.
Monday 26th July – Another grand totally naked day in the Lancashire hills. Managed an 11 mile loop to Ward’s Stone (summit cairn photo below) without seeing a single other person. Loads of birds though, buzzards and sparrowhawks were the highlight, and a few grouse – but then this is a grouse moor! Donned shorts once when passing through a farmyard – the local farmers are not exactly renowned for their liberal views!
